“BOHEMIAN BURLESQUE: A NIGHT OF ART AND ELEGANCE”
WHERE VISUAL ARTS MEETS PERFORMING ARTS
THIS SATURDAY NIGHT 24 AUGUST, 2024 (FINAL NIGHT)
TWO LIVE PERFORMANCES
FEATURING THE DOYENNE OF BURLESQUE DOLORES DAIQUIRI
AND THE SENSATIONAL STELLA DEL LURE
Step into the enchanting world of 1920s Paris at “Bohemian Burlesque: A Night of Art and Elegance,”
a unique celebration of femininity, art, and performance.
On view is my burlesque series, a study of the uniqueness of the feminine spirit that the historical art form of burlesque enables this to be captured in the most unique way. The revolution of the 1920’s Paris as a centre point of the free expression and the evolution of females had rippled throughout the world and burlesque in Paris was a part of that celebration. The movement was influential through out the arts. One such artist DEMÉTRE H. CHIPARUS famous for his bronze sculptures of 1920’s dancers are highly sought-after to this day. DEMÉTRE H. CHIPARUS work was a direct influence on me to create my burlesque series of Australian performers who have over the past years made their mark not only in Australia but internationally with Zella Rose as an example being voted the number one burlesque performer in the world in 2020.
Set at the atmospheric Midnight in Paris venue, this event is a tribute to the glamorous and audacious era of burlesque. Featuring the award-winning burlesque artworks of Danny Kneebone and captivating live performances by the legendary doyenne of burlesque @doloresdaiquiri and her special guest performer, this evening promises a unique experience of art and performance art. Enjoy spellbinding live acts, and embrace the chance to dress up in your finest Bohemian attire.

ALICE-ISM (2019) is an illustration of the age-old Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland tackled through the grandeur of theatrical performance with a burlesque twist.
This series is dedicated to performing artists and particularly female performing artists. This was key for me in this project as each artist took on the persona of their character. They were vital in creating the energy and story for me to capture in each work in this series. In this time of shut down it has particularly become important to me to shine a light on these ladies as the arts and the performing arts have been hit the hardest by the whats happened in the world. For me the arts are an intricate part of our culture and during this time we are the hardest hit we are the ones who are the first to fall, although not mainstream these ladies and there colleges in their respective fields are the ones that make the difference to our culture as a whole. I hope through my works in capturing these performers we can reflect on the important role culture plays in a vibrant and healthy society in a free country.
Danny Kneebone’s latest project—an international award-winning artist and photographer assembles a talented team of female theatrical ballet and burlesque performers to create a series of fantastical nonsensical imaginings that explore the promise of a world beyond with unexpected happenings.
The timeless fascination of Alice—which still resonates in today’s modern world— as evidenced by the numerous interpretations of Alice across many art forms, has convinced Daniel that ‘Alice-ism’ is a movement in itself.
We are incredibly grateful to our marvellous costumier, Marie, of Marquis de Sade, for her incredible costumes, designs, ideas and her dedication to this project. Thank you, Marie and our sponser www.marquisdesade.com.au
